Digital Storytelling

Some of my favorite projects that were not on the clock

Here are a few sample pieces that illustrate this well.

Harvard University: Master of Liberal Arts in Extension Studies in Journalism Capstone Project

“Hunger and Obesity in the Land of Plenty”

I chose to write my master’s degree capstone (thesis) about poverty and its Impact on the American waistline. There has never been more information and choices about what we eat. Despite all the information we now have available about nutrients, diet and exercise, our Western diet has sickened us and other cultures that have adopted it. With nearly 16 million households struggling with food insecurity, it seems counter-intuitive that we would also have an inordinate number of child obesity cases in lower income populations. My thesis attempts to unpack this growing epidemic.

"Italian Dreams"

In my digital storytelling class at Harvard, our final project was a digital short, illustrating what we learned in group projects. With a Vespa, a GoPro strapped to my helmet, and my husband as my muse, I had a blast. Here is my maiden voyage into one of the most rewarding creative outlets I’ve ever tried solo. Italian Dreams

“Commuters”

I’m not going to lie, when I hear “team project” I cringe. Fortunately, I was paired with only one other collaborator, and she also hated team projects. We focused on our strengths, and I think we both came out of this pretty happy with the results. Grab a tissue or hug a puppy before you press play. Watch “Commuters”.
